Kubanka was worn by plastuns (a special type of military art, or kharacterniki) of the Terek and Kuban Cossack troops. After the revolution, this type of hat was worn by soldiers of the Red Army, NKVD, and police. During the Second World War, many conscripts from the south wore the Kubanka, and it was also officially worn by the Cossacks of the 9th Plastun Division of the Red Army, and other Plastuns.
Reinstated in the RF army since 2004.

Very common hat wear with near unlimited variations. Common to wear all along south Russian border from Turkey till China. Loved by Cossacks, Turkic,  and Praporchik. (who wears it while writing this).

This particulair model most worn by the Volzhskoe, Yeniseiskoe, Donskoe, Kubanskoe, Semirechinskoe, Siberian, Ural cossacks but any papacha is better than non so like the balkans it's a big free for all and not very strict.

It's one sizing meant to fit males

Difference between Blue & Red top & cross commonly is ranking, but also can be a different variation. (For example Don Cossacks wore the red while Terek Cossacks whore blue).
Same level of ''lost meaning'' goes into the top embroided cross. For some cossacks a sign of their orthodox faith, while others claim its due manufactering process.

Right now only green, black and grey tops are available.

With fur in different shapes and sizes. Each papakha is unique and befitting it's owner.

Eitherway these hats keep you warm and very cool looking!
